IT Courses “Reassuringly Pricey?
Funny lady Linda Smith used to say, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.
It seems that until the recent credit crunch, we consumers bought into the view that Price is an indicator of quality, or “Let’s be honest, cheap equals crap. The media re-enforced the view – imagine the mouth-watering M&S ads, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. Conversely, the supermarkets Value or Basic ranges were devoured by spendthrifts but not by you and I.
In Computer training, high price colleges (surely they’re superior - if you can afford it - why else would so many people use them?) convinced us that there are IT trainers around who’ll train less expensively but beware, it won’t be as good.
Then a short time passes, the economy is in tatters, and all of a sudden value is all the rage! Discerning shoppers stop visiting Waitrose, and instead discover the delights of Aldi and Lidl. City bankers and their large bonuses are frowned upon, and we all look more closely at what we buy.
Have we been fooled by companies charging more? Dig a little further into the UK training market, and there’s a lot to discover. Just because we need more skilled IT professionals, are we really getting a good deal coughing up over five thousand pounds to be trained in these skills, or are we just paying to prop up dinosaurs? It’s a bit rich that many computer training providers are preaching one thing whilst practicing another - supplying students with out of date methods. Is it reasonable to pour over books when any IT material can be downloaded in this communication age? Why should we drive to training centres, forking out for our hotel bills to support their overheads? Anytime Interactive support should be available for me just that – at my convenience, but not at my cost.
With more up-to-date, easier training options on offer at less than half these prices, perhaps we should wake up to the fact that when it comes to electronic learning, value means lower cost for higher quality. A new order is asserting itself in Computer training – in marketing terminology, it’s slashed prices for best ever products. In this uncertain world we live in, that’s welcome news.
